What’s your calling? You know…the work you were born to do. Your dharma. Your purpose in life.
If you’re like me, you’re still trying to figure out what you want to be when you grow up.
But it’s worth investigating because when you discover your calling (at least what it is right NOW), life oozes with meaning, joy and fulfillment…
…AND when you’re really passionate about what you do, you get paid more for doing it.
CHA-CHING!
You want a job you love…and one that will support the lifestyle you want. So, you have to find your SWEET SPOT. (Gasp!)
That’s right…you have to figure out where PASSION and SKILL intersect. That’s your SWEET SPOT. (Get your mind out of the gutter. )
Your sweet spot reveals your calling in life.
Ask yourself: What are you passionate about?
Don’t censor yourself. Just let yourself be honest about it.
Maybe you’re passionate about watching Netflix, or reading gossip magazines, or Pinterest projects. That’s cool. Write it down. Write down all your PASSIONS.
Then, ask yourself…what are you skilled at? What comes naturally to you that other people struggle with?
What feels like a walk in the park for you but feels like complete torture to someone else.
What are the things people are always asking your help with? These are your SKILLS.
(Don’t worry…if these questions feel overwhelming, download my FREE “SWEET SPOT” CHEAT SHEET. It makes it super simple and fun.)
Once you’ve listed your passions and skills, you just have to find where they meet.
You’re obsessed with “Fixer Upper” and have wicked graphic design skills? Your calling just might be creating brochures for interior designers!
Love all canine critters and have years of experience teaching? Maybe teaching dog owners pet training and care-taking tricks is your calling!
Poke around and explore your passions and skills…consider all possibilities. Let yourself get a little silly and dream a bit. Sometimes your calling hides in those crazy ideas.
After you’ve had the chance to dream, come back down to reality and know that your calling isn’t ALL sunshine and roses.
Yes, you want a job that makes you come alive…that you look forward to…that gets you springing out of bed in the morning.
But let’s face it…every job has a shit sandwich.
It’s the little things about work that you dread…or avoid…or just plain hate that get sandwiched in between all the wonderful things about your job that you absolutely love.
Every job has one…it’s just a matter of what flavor it is.
To find your calling, you need to consider whether or not you can stomach the shit sandwich it comes with.
If sitting in front of a computer for hours at a time makes you want to stab your eyes out, maybe graphic design isn’t your jam. The shit sandwich is just too nasty for you.
Consider the shit sandwich that comes with each type of work and ask yourself if it’s one you can tolerate.
Wealth is NOT all about the money. It’s about time, freedom, joy and living your best life…
…and since we all spend most of our time working, it’s important to do work you love.
Discovering your calling isn’t always easy…and it often changes over time…but it’s worth exploring because if you find yourself stuck in a job you hate, then you’re not living wealthy.
If you hate your job, you probably aren’t doing a great job at it either…
…and that’s not going to get you recognition, appreciation, a raise or a good reference for a better job. (These are all parts of living wealthy too.)
Now, go get started on finding your calling with my handy, dandy (and FREE) “SWEET SPOT” CHEAT SHEET.
